I finally did it! I finally broke down and bought a bike a few weeks ago. Now I already did have a bike, but the one I had was really set up for riding down hills or hitting jumps. Not very practical at all for riding around and not to mention it weighs more then a truck. (not actually)
I am fortunate enough that I work like 5 minutes away from my house. A huge change from the 45 minutes to work I used to endure each way. With that being said, and it being summer, it really seems like a shame to be starting up my car for such a short drive. Soooo I have found the solution… bike to work!
The last couple of weeks (when it’s not raining 😫) I gave it a go. I got my ass out of bed a little earlier, packed my lunch into a backpack and was on my way. But who wants to get up at 6:00am to ride a bike?
What if I told you it didn’t actually suck? In fact on the days I biked to work I actually felt more energetic throughout the day. Getting my heart rate up for the short ride seemed to wake me up more then just sitting in a car. On top of being more awake I also found I was more focused at work. Exercise also releases endorphins (the feel good hormone) so when you get to work or school it should start your day off that much better.
So all in all, you can see some benefit to biking to work or school (if you are close enough). But wait I have not even got to the best parts! Biking will save the mileage off my car and save me some gas money, this is important when you have ludicrous pump prices like we do here. Finally it takes me 10 min each way (pedaling pretty hard), which means I got 20 minutes of cardio done! That means more me time after work since I wont be stuck on the stair climber!
This is only the tip of the iceberg! There are multiple different benefits to biking including building some quad strength. So if you are close enough I challenge you to try it and see how you feel throughout the day! Do you have more energy? Do you feel happier going into work?
