Keeping on Track While on Vacation

Hot weather can only mean one thing, vacation time! With all the long weekends we get through summer and the roads finally being clear of snow, it’s time to get away! Even as I write this I am sitting in an airport waiting to board my flight. Had a 3 day weekend so why not get away and enjoy it!

Going away doesn’t mean it’s time to take a break from my fitness goals. I do like to check around prior to my vacation to plan where the closest gym is. If traveling in Canada I can usually find a goodlife so that way I can avoid paying. If you can’t find the same gym that you usually go to the next thing you can do is look online for guest passes. Majority of the time I can find a few days free with a guest passes and trials.

Usually it’s easy to find a gym when on vacation, but the hard part is finding time or motivation to make it to the gym. Don’t get me wrong sometimes you need to take a break and should if you don’t take enough rest days. But if you have goals that you are trying to meet or trying to keep the physique you got over vacation, it is best to get some sessions in. That doesn’t mean it needs to be a long tedious workout, 45 minutes is plenty and back to vacation after.

The part that I struggle with more is always the diet part. Being near obsessed with the gym, I can almost always make it for a lift. Learning to listen to your body is key here depending on your goals. If you are trying to lose weight there are a few things you can do to ensure you stay on track, try them out or let me know what you do to stay in shape on vacation.

💥Eat slowly, this way your body has the time to start digesting food and let you know if it’s full. If you are looking to lose weight then you should expect to be a little hungry shortly after eating.

💥Use the my fitness pal app. With the majority of restaurants in their library you can almost always find something to eat. Even just using generic foods in their library will get you close to where you want to be.

💥Keep hydrated, in other words drink all the water! It helps curb your appetite and a lot of the time those hunger pains could just mean you are thirsty. I try to drink more water when I’m on vacation then I do at home.

💥If possible get a kitchenette. It is a whole lot easier and cheaper if you can make your own food. Granted some people want a true vacation from all of that, but it is amazing how much you can save just by buying your own food.
