With winter coming to an end and the big thaw happening cold and flu season is here for the next bit. Even as I write this the seasonal cold has claimed me as it’s own 😔
Now we all know that exercise can drastically decrease the chances of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and many other illnesses. Another huge benefit is the boost in your immune system.
Researchers have found that people who exercise for 30 min daily have a higher white blood cell count, which fight infection. In fact even people in their 60’s who were regularly active had as high of a count as people in their 30’s.
This doesn’t mean you have to be going to the gym or killing it in a class. These results were seen by people who simply went for a 30min walk daily.
Physical activity may also help flush bacteria out of your lungs from the increase of oxygen and gas exchange. Putting your body under stress helps it react quicker and more efficiently when a illness does come around.
I know personally I have been able to go with getting sick maybe once a year, but it wasn’t always like that. I used to catch almost everything that went around but since steadily going to the gym that has drastically decreased. Whether it’s my body adapting or just touching a bunch of weights that other people have touched, my immune system seems stronger then ever.
